Entire kitchen cabinets, entertainment systems, and furniture can be built in the European design with moderate skills, the Veritas 32 cabinetmaking system, and basic tools.
With frameless construction (vs. the North American face frame construction), the system is a series of boxes with standard components - left and right panels are interchangeable, as are tops and bottoms. The hole pattern is designed to fit various hardware fittings and a furniture unit can be easily converted at any time from one configuration to another and to allow for last minute changes in construction.
All holes in the Veritas 32 Cabinetmaking System are measured with consistent 32mm spacing and all in reference to the sides and ends of the panels.
Gauge head has both metric and Imperial graduations to make settings easy. While materials and cutting measurements can be either metric or Imperial, we recommend using metric for the design and construction stage to reduce rounding errors.
Set drilling rails 37mm in from the edge of a panel and clamp into place; system holes (vertical holes for screws, inserts, shelf supports or hinges) and construction holes (horizontal holes bored to accept dowels) can then be drilled.
Bush carrier straddles the rail, with the selected size of drill bushing in the hole in the rail where the first hole is to be drilled. Holes are then drilled as required for the design.
Dowelling jig bases allow for drilling of dowel holes in the ends of the top and bottom panels.
Two systems are offered. A basic jig and a deluxe system.
The Basic Veritas 32 System includes one rail with fixing screws, two regular-length rods (for work up to 12' wide), two clamp heads and two tails, a bush carrier with 5, 8, and 10mm bushings, a 3/32' hex key, and a register pin. (See chart below for components that can be added to this system.)
The Deluxe Veritas 32 System includes all items in the basic system, plus two extra rails, two long rods (for work up to 24' wide), a gauge head, dowelling jig bases, connector rods and plate, an extra register pin, plus a fitted wooden box to store all parts (except the rails and long rods).
The booklet that is included with the Veritas 32 Cabinetmaking System is available separately and provides detailed instructions on its uses and basic procedures for making a cabinet from particleboard. The same system would apply for solid-wood panels or plywood.
